Some knowledge about RF connectors

RF ConnectorA device that transmits radio frequency (RF) signals to and from subsystem modules and circuits. The equipment is usually connected to the subsystems via cables or directly to an external antenna. RF connectors can also be used for board-to-board interconnection. Typical applications include mobile radios, handsets and high-performance data interfaces.

RF ConnectorThere are a variety of types, orientations, and impedance characteristics with frequency and target application requirements. The mounting can be surface mounted on the circuit board, or replaced by through holes. It can also be installed on the chassis connected to the PCB via a cable. RF ConnectorDifferent types of connectors are connected with RF adapters for cable conversion and conversion between male and female connectors.
The main electrical properties of RF connectors include the following: the characteristic impedance of the connector (also related to the cable connected to the connector), return loss (matching-or signal reflection) and insertion loss (signal attenuation). These aspects must be carefully considered in radio frequency systems, because the loss of signal can lead to a reduction in receiver sensitivity or transmission output power. When using RF connectors for high-frequency data transmission cables, such as UHD SDI video feeds, the quality of the connector can affect the length of the connecting cable that can be used between devices.
Typical impedance values for RF interconnects are 50 ohms and 75 ohms. Collectively referred to as connector male plug and female socket. Various RFThe connectors are mated using different mechanisms. The BNC connector is a bayonet locking mechanism. Type N and TNC have a sheath, and the sheath is threaded on the connector for firm connection. SMA and SMB are examples of threaded connections. Some (e. g., F connectors) use the central core conductor of the cable to interface with the jack, rather than with the pins. Some miniature on-board mount or ultra-thin cable connectors use chisel connections that are held together by contact pressure. They are intended to be used internally in the product chassis, but can also be found on instruments and equipment. UMC-MMXC RF connectors are one example.
Although RF connectors are usually used for a specified operating frequency band, they are also used for applications that completely exceed their operating frequency band, but the entire circuit design will adjust their losses.
Other important characteristics to consider when choosing an RF connector are the insertion force requirements, the connection tools used, and the number of insertions the connector can reliably support without reducing performance. Many connectors must cope with extreme temperature and environmental factors as well as temperature cycling-it is advantageous to consider the environmental requirements of the product in the decision-making process.
